A little more about me...

Well hello there! I'm Lauren and welcome to my little corner of the internet, it's really lovely to have you here.

I'm a calligrapher based in North London and Hertfordshire where I live with my little family.

​

If you were to cut me in half you would find there is a big bright creative streak running right though me. Since my degree in Arts Education I have taken on a variety of different roles; informal educator and youth worker, theatre company manager, operations director for a not for profit organisation and I am a fully qualified teacher, previously teaching secondary school drama and theatre studies.

I always thought myself as a bit of a creative 'Jack of all trades'... I love it all; photography, sewing and embroidery, paper crafts, baking, writing... I could go on... But in 2016, on the build up to my own wedding, I discovered a craft that is engrained in my DNA. Calligraphy!

You see my grandfather was a calligrapher and sign writer and until I started looking into learning a little bit about calligraphy so I could add some extra elements to my wedding, I'd forgotten that I had inherited all of his old tools when he passed away. Before I took a class I dug out everything I had and found a whole load of chisel tip felt tips that hadn't been touched in at least 25 years. To my surprise they all worked as if they were brand new... this was my sign! Since then I have taken several classes (I'm a serial course taker!) and discovered that calligraphy was my thing and I didn't want to be a total Jack of all trades anymore.

Now I specialise in personalised items or commissions, hand made event signage and my personal favourite, utilising my many years in informal and formal education to teach calligraphy workshops.

I get the most enjoyment from people coming to me with a Pinterest board or some saved Instgram posts that are a source of inspiration to them, and then finding a way to turn those ideas into reality.

​
